Raytools Cutting Head Consumables
Raytools heads are the most widely copied consumable range in the market, which is exactly why the dimensions matter more than the label. Our chart separates the 2D heads from the 3D and tube heads, because their parts are not interchangeable.
The 2D head and the 3D head take different parts
Raytools consumables are the ones a workshop is most likely to have bought before, and the ones most likely to have been bought wrongly. The reason is simple: the BM series 2D heads and the BT / tube heads use different body diameters, so a nozzle or ceramic ring that fits one will not fit the other — even though both are sold as "Raytools compatible".
So the first question on this page is not which head model you have, but whether it is a flat-bed head or a 3D / tube head. That single answer eliminates half of the wrong orders.
Consumables by head type
| Head type | Typical series | Nozzle | Ceramic ring | Protective lens |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2D flat-bed | BM series (BM109, BM110, BM111, BM114) | D32, 15 mm tall, M11, 0.8–5.0 mm bore | D32-M14 | 20 sizes |
| 3D / tube cutting | 3D and tube heads (e.g. BT series) | 3D-M8, 19 mm tall, 1.0–3.0 mm bore; DNE D15 / D17 | D19.5-M8 | 20 sizes |
| High power 2D | BM series above 6 kW | D28 / D32 / 3D-M8 | D32-M14 / D40.8-M11 | 20 sizes |
Where a cell names a family instead of a single part number, it means we stock that family — the head model, the revision and the cartridge decide which one. That check is what we do before shipping.
The bore figures are the ranges the heads are normally run with, not a recommendation for your material. Bore is a process decision: two shops cutting the same thickness on the same head can end up one or two steps apart because their gas supply and their tolerance for dross differ.
What we hold and what we confirm
| Part | Stocked | Confirmed per order |
|---|---|---|
| Nozzle (2D) | D28 and D32 bodies, single and double layer, coated and uncoated, plus E-type in both | Bore, layer type, coating |
| Nozzle (3D / tube) | 3D-M8 in single and double layer; DNE D15 and D17 in single and double | Bore, layer type |
| Nozzle (other contours) | Bullet nozzle in single and double layer | Bore, layer type |
| Ceramic ring | D32-M14 for 2D heads, D19.5-M8 for 3D and tube heads | Ring thread, head revision |
| Protective window | 20 sizes from 18×2 to 55×9 mm, rated 4–30 kW | Diameter, thickness, cartridge |
| Focus lens | D30 with FL100 / FL125 as stock; 63.5–254 mm to order | Focal length, coating |
Note what the first two rows say: the 2D bodies and the 3D bodies are stocked as separate lines, which is the practical form of the warning above.
Reading a Raytools order correctly
- Say whether it is a flat-bed head or a 3D / tube head. This is the single most useful sentence in the enquiry.
- Give the head model from the nameplate, including any suffix.
- Give the bore you are running now, even if it is not the one you want. It tells us what the machine is tuned for.
- We confirm the variant, and we will say so if the requested bore does not exist for that head.
Three mistakes worth avoiding
- Buying "Raytools compatible" without the head type. The phrase covers two incompatible families, and the wrong one fits nothing.
- Mixing up nozzle thread and ring thread. The M11 thread is nozzle-to-ring; the ring itself seats on the head with a different thread. Ordering by nozzle thread alone gets you the wrong ring.
- Assuming a bigger bore cuts thicker plate better. Up to a point it does; past it you lose jet velocity and get more dross, not less.
